WHO WE ARE.
Driven by the belief that every person matters Azalea works to empower and facilitate sustainable transformation in the lives of the men, women and neighbourhoods impacted by sex trafficking. Through the sharing of expertise in this seemingly insurmountable global issue, Azalea then mobilises others to do likewise.
We call ourselves Azalea because in ancient Greek it means ‘beautified and dignified’. The Bible verse, Proverbs 31:25 encapsulates this nicely: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” Our Encompass guests (women surviving sex trafficking) have remarkable strength and dignity, but it is our prayer that they too would be able to “laugh at the days to come”
For Flint (supporting men who purchase sex), an important verse is Isaiah 50:7 ‘Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.’ We celebrate every man who bravely steps forward to confront their temptations, change behaviours, and reduce their purchasing of sex. We hope, through a solution-focused and mind renewal based response, to encourage men to ‘set their face like flint’, to not succumb to guilt or shame, but to recognise that they too can walk free.
Empowering Communities Against Sex Trafficking
We achieve our aims through our frontline services, Encompass: serving and walking alongside women who are surviving sex trafficking in and/or through Herts, Beds and Bucks, and Flint: serving and walking alongside men who are purchasing sex and wish to significantly reduce temptation. We serve both local and global communities, empowering all to join the movement to see sex trafficking reduce in our neighbourhoods through our projects People Against Sex Trafficking, and Consulting and Partnerships.
By drawing on the compassion of volunteers from churches across the town and county, we can offer holistic, spiritual, and practical support and a wider Christian community where our Encompass guests and Flint clients can experience being treated with dignity. We are upfront about our Christian ethos due to their vulnerabilities, and we regularly work in partnership with other specialist support organisations and statutory services across the three counties.
HOW WE HELP.
ENCOMPASS
Encompass offers support to women from crisis point through to exit. Starting with Engage at Walking Outreach and Drop-in; through to Build with support for stability with housing and health; and finally Flourish to develop skills for independent living.
FLINT
Recognising that a contributory factor to seeing an end to sex trafficking is to end demand, it is essential for support to be available for men who no longer want to buy sex. The Flint team offer confidential mentoring enabling men to facilitate healthy change in their lives.
REROUTE
Reroute, led by invitation, aims to raise awareness among teenagers about grooming signs and recovery. In response to high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Partnerships Advocacy & Consulting
Azalea, in response to requests, acts as consultant for a number of projects who share in the vision to see an end to sex trafficking. Our hope is that Azalea will flourish in every place where there is a need for it, and that more men and women will be able to build new lives free from the shame, violence and exploitation that impacts them.
PAST
The PAST initiative works to bring the community together to develop local solutions to the local problems associated with sex trafficking. It aims to promote a zero-tolerance policy towards exploitation.
